Waxing School North Carolina

Tuesday, February 15th

Sorry for the long absence.
Friday I've been busy on the first day of field exercises for the course in Remote Sensing. Wake up at 7:30, meeting at UCL at 9 am and departure by bus to Verulamium ( Wikipedia ) the third largest Roman site in England after London and Colchester, with the difference that nn no modern city on top of the old one. It is just 30 minutes from London, making it the perfect place for our exercises.

I expected holes, churches, theaters, roads, villas, mosaics ... none of that! There is a large green park with soccer fields, playground, pond with ducks ... here and there a small piece of wall, one of the excavated city gates, unbelievably, that Sir. Mortimer Wheeler ... and his wife (apparently the excavations were made by her but him he's taken on) a mosaic covered by a concrete structure that makes the building look like the public toilets in the park ... Apparently, however, only 50 cm from the beautiful lawn, the city is very well preserved. Some mosaics and other materials are exhibited at the Museum (just outside the park in the area that had to be close the hole), a small but extremely well-prepared to accommodate the children, a little 'less interesting for adults, maybe ... I have a vision but probably a bit 'too much Italian as it should be a museum (especially for a museum about the Romans). However, Wheeler's excavations seem to have left a somewhat confused and documentation then you are planning to perform exploration on the whole site to get an idea a bit 'more precise than what's really underneath. When
nn has been given permission to operate inside the old city walls, in practice you can not plant anything on the ground inside the archaeological site but should be planted to make resistivity of the electrodes and then you can not do.

Then we worked just outside the city walls, close to the door, hoping thus to find the road leading into town and who knows, maybe even a cemetery that should be in that area.

course Friday morning it was raining! our mood was not the best then! In addition the whole morning is spent with the preparations for the nn grid to which we have participated, so in practice we were standing like idiots to take the rain and watch others work.

The mood was decidedly worse so I did what any Italian would do in that situation: I pulled out the salami and I started to cut!! The situation has now improved, a buddy of mine has even started to Madrid zompettare around the park shouting "salami," ... there should always be an Italian in every team!

During lunch break we went to eat at a pub in the nearby modern village, costing all of a sudden so I launched on 'Inglese breakfast that cost only 5 pounds but it was more full-bodied anything else on the menu!

To get to the pub we explored another piece of the park and discovered the largest Gothic church and a couple of other places really cute! Too bad the day was so bad.

In the afternoon we finally started working, he also stopped raining and the rest of the day is spent much more quickly. I have worked at all resistivity nn the afternoon because I wanted to change me and put the clothes I'd brought to work with the magnetometer (you do not have anything metal addossso, including the bra hooks, shoe studs, zip ... easier said than done !), but those who worked there were very suggestive, it seems a tool out of star wars!

6:30 For we were back in London but we were all destroyed! Just got home I jumped in the shower, I put something clean, I got on the bike (with the latest energy rimastemi) and went to the annual meeting climbing club. We gathered in an industrial building that the boys (including some members of the club) and have bought into a community building of small side rooms with drywall. An incredible place! The club has provided free pizza and beer for everyone (because as far as say that the crisis which has the UCL is still a lot more money to an Italian! But many more ...). We elected president and the club's staff for next year (obviously my presence was key ...) and then we watched a movie.
Before leaving home I thought No I would have made to go and instead I was happy even though there was I must say that I have made friends with many people ... more than anything else I was with the 3 people I made friends climbing the castle, others have done as if there were ... nn but people with whom it takes a little 'time to get in touch. E 'was still an enjoyable evening.
But on Saturday morning when the alarm has sounded nn I was just able to get up! To be honest I did not own! I knew he probably would have been the best day to go: The weather gave the sun all day, but there were lots of rugby ... and I was really tired. I felt very guilty about not going but I finally decided to do what you like: I'm here just six months the hell, I want to enjoy them! So I went back to sleep, I woke up at about 11 very relaxed, I rearranged the room in anticipation of the arrival of Max (the Sermon on the delivery of the thesis No I have had much time to think about cleaning, seemed to have exploded a bomb in room) and I also opened the table so that we could study both (usually I keep it closed because it only takes me half, especially since I'm almost always on the bed and go to the library to study seriously, and so I a bit 'more than space in the room). They came down to breakfast I found waiting for a letter from my grandmother: milk, cereal, a beautiful sunny day and a letter from Grandma, what can you want? My only regret is that his Letters to be sad ... talking about the past, the loneliness of old age, and of course it takes a bit of his usual paranoia ("the only grandchild who remembers me ..."," those few who show me love "... things like that) . In part she is like this, in part her life is really sad the last few years, but I'm glad that my letters to give a little 'joy, I do not know what to do more than that. However, for years now says he wants to write the story of his life, but then concludes that always afraid that someone be offended (because obviously it would be extremely sharp, as in his character) and so it does not, then I thought that I could tell you write to me in his letters because they do not know what else to write. The earthen a bit 'busy and I really think she would keep telling me these things, had a very interesting life, but he never told a lot (for the most part are not good memories). At one o'clock I reached
Amaresh (my Indian friend) in a pub where to send the Manchester United vs Derby Manchestes City (he is a supporter of United) and I drink a beer with him. At 2:30 I moved to my pub for Italy-England and Amaresh (beginning to be curious about rugby) I just reached his game is over. We lost horribly, the worst defeat in recent years and the pub were all very sarcastic: I was told then that will touch them (Ireland) and England to think that we can continue to think that there is more to spaghetti! Do not have a point ... Oh well except for the bitter defeat in the afternoon was pleasant, I socialized more with my neighbors, which is fairly simple early afternoon then their English gets worse with increasing alcohol level until they become very incomprehensible, but at that point are so drunk that you can answer one thing for another and not change anything.
finally arrived at 7.30 am Max and we spent the rest of the day cuddling us, we had many outstanding!
Sunday morning, with inhuman effort, I woke up early and went on the field. Obviously there was no trace of the magnificent sun of the day before: wind, rain and cold in particular. Many of my friends have seen fit to stay at home and only 5 of us, fearless, you are presented. I took the opportunity to work all day with the total station, which is the exercise most useful of all: you do not learn to use it well enough, are those things which are done only during the excavations and from one year to 'Another one forgets how to work the menu and all settings! Stand still at the station with the cold and rain is not fun, but at least it was instructive. As I had hoped we were all pretty numb to the 2 that he decided to go home! So I came home early from my Morosetti who was working alone and abandoned!
Monday was again a wonderful day (I think doing it on purpose!), Colder than the others but with a wonderful sun. So I went out and Maiocchi bike (I borrowed the bike from the Vale for him), and we shared the thrill of driving against traffic. We went first to the UCL to return a book to the library (before I do still pay £ 1 for returning late) and then we went to Camden where I had to buy hair dye. We spent a wonderful afternoon to walk among the stalls, enjoying the beautiful day, I made the first picture with the Fujica film of Dad and Max gave me a fabulous furry hat with ears that I love!! (I also put to sleep)

To conclude the evening the best Maiocchi has thought of watching "The Night of chickens living" ( Megavideo link for who wants it), the first horror / porn / musical / trash, with a touch of socially committed against fast-food ... do not tell you! Cmq I think the director wanted to do musicals in his life and for some reason has been found to make the horror, but its primary task is clear! good vision ... buhahahahahhahahaha
