- The cost is high (50 billion euro) and the ambitious project, but with oil prices skyrocketing, it seems the only prospect of escape. A huge expanse of solar panels in the Sahara desert one day produce enough energy to illuminate the whole of Europe.
is convinced Arnulf Jaeger-Walden of the Institute for Energy of the European Commission: "Just 0.3% capture of solar energy that warms the Sahara desert to meet our energy needs." The project has been presented in recent days Euroscience Open Forum in Barcelona.
A new transmission will bring DC electricity in remote places without running the risk of loss of energy.
The new plant would be located in an area slightly smaller than Wales, and to silence those who argue that solar power will never be reliable because the weather is unpredictable.
